Sagd oil companies
Athabasca Oil Corporation is a differentiated Canadian energy company focused on sustainable resource development of thermal and light oil assets. We offer investors excellent exposure to oil prices and are focused on maximizing profitability through prudent capital activity across a diversified asset base. Serafina Energy Ltd. is a Canadian, private, intermediate heavy oil company with properties strategically comprised of high-quality, proven, low risk assets. The company is comprised of experienced leaders and technical experts who guide the development of our Steam Assisted Gravity Drainage (SAGD) assets. The process leads to a high recovery and high oil rate at economic oil-to-steam ratios (OSR). The Underground Test Facility (UTF-Phase A) at Fort McMurray, Alberta, Canada was constructed in 1985 by the Alberta Oil Sands Technology and Research Authority (AOSTRA) to test the concept of SAGD. The process was tested from December 1987 to mid-1990. Most major Canadian oil companies now have SAGD projects in production or under construction in Alberta's Athabasca oil sands area. Examples include Japan Canada Oil Sands Ltd.'s (JACOS), Suncor's Firebag and MacKay River projects, Nexen's Long Lake, Husky Energy's Tucker Lake and Sunrise projects, Encana's Foster Creek and Christina developments, ConocoPhillips Surmont and the Devon Canada's Jackfish project.

The hydrocarbon resource found in Canada's oil sands is called bitumen. In- situ recovery techniques, such as steam-assisted gravity drainage (SAGD) have to be used to extract these deep deposits of 2020 ConocoPhillips Company. 4 Aug 2018 96% of Canadian oil reserves are located in Alberta's oil sands, Steam- Assisted Gravity Drainage (SAGD) requires two horizontal wells do be and operated by MEG Energy, a pure play oil sands Canadian company. 30 Mar 2017 and thermal oil transactions, Canadian companies were responsible Athabasca's acquisition of Statoil's Leismer SAGD assets, analysis of 25 Jul 2018 Petroleum companies and scientists look to steam-assisted gravity drainage for its potential to prolong the life of wells in proven or probable oil CNOOC International has oil sands, gas and steam projects in Fort McMurray, and the company has an interest in more than 300,000 acres in the Athabasca region. In addition to our current SAGD operations and Long Lake Southwest, Most major Canadian oil companies now have SAGD projects in production or under construction in Alberta's Athabasca oil sands area. Examples include

One of the few organically homegrown and wholly Canadian oil companies on our list, Canadian Natural Resources Ltd. (CNQ) was founded in 1973 (in Calgary, naturally) and spent its first 20 years or so in relative obscurity. Currently, these companies remain active in pursuing oil sands development in the region. From 1983 to 1994, JACOS and its partners experimented with a cyclic steam stimulation pilot project on the Hangingstone Lease and participated in SAGD pilot experiments at the Underground Test Facility (UTF) from 1992 to 1997. Steam-assisted gravity drainage (SAGD) is an enhanced oil recovery (EOR) process which uses steam to extract oil from a reservoir through primary or secondary recovery techniques. EOR methods alter the chemical composition of the oil itself, to make it easier to extract. SAGD involves injecting high-temperature steam underground through a horizontal well to melt the bitumen, allowing it to flow to an adjacent horizontal well. From there, it is pumped to the surface for further processing. These pairs of horizontal wells are drilled from a central well pad in order to minimize land disturbance. There are 100s of Oil & Gas companies operating inside Canada varying from large international players such as Suncor Energy Inc., Encana Corp. and Cenovus Energy Inc., right down to small junior players based in Alberta.

It is an advanced form of steam stimulation in which a pair of horizontal wells is drilled into the oil reservoir, one a few metres above the other. The SA-SAGD process builds on the predominant oil sands production process, SAGD. The SAGD process injects high-pressure steam into bitumen deposits. The steam melts the bitumen so it can be pumped to the surface using conventional wells. Adding solvents to the steam reduces the amount of water needed.
